Our team members come from all walks of life and have worked across different industries, giving us unique perspectives and insights.
We’re a tight-knit bunch who value collaboration and teamwork, where everyone is treated with respect and feels valued. Some of our team members have been with us since not long after we started three decades ago, which shows how much we care about creating a sustainable and fulfilling work environment.
Our team includes Fellows of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia, as well as experienced analysts and graduates who are always learning and growing under the mentorship of our senior members. Deborah Jones
Actuary

Deborah has been working as a consulting actuary since qualification as a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia in 1998. For most of the period since 1995, Deborah has provided advice to workers compensation clients, and many other general insurance portfolios, including compulsory third party, medical malpractice, professional indemnity and mortgage insurance. In her spare time Deborah participates in archery, helps with the running of her local Eisteddfod, and is working on an MA in Writing and Literature.
Geoff Keen

Geoff has been working as a consulting actuary since qualification in 2006. Geoff has extensive experience in undertaking actuarial valuations and advice for workers compensation, medical malpractice and professional indemnity insurance portfolios, long service leave and Friendly Societies. Geoff also carries out valuations for legal purposes. Prior to joining Brett & Watson Geoff worked for several organisations in the finance sector for 8 years. Outside work Geoff spends time with his family, with his church, and enjoys playing football (soccer).
Victor Tien

Chartered Enterprise Risk Actuary
Victor is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia and has over ten years of experience working in the actuarial profession. He has spent most of his career working as a consulting actuary and has provided advice in multiple areas including insurance liability valuations, insurance pricing and data analytics. Victor’s experience spans across numerous insurance portfolios including workers compensation, public liability, home warranty, compulsory third party, trade credit, and other short tail general insurance portfolios. Outside of work, Victor enjoys spending time with his young family and plays basketball.
Bruce Watson
Actuary

Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia
Bruce Watson has been a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia for over 30 years. He has been working as a consulting actuary since qualification in 1990. Bruce has been performing Friendly Society actuarial work since 1990, including having acted as Appointed Actuary for four Friendly Societies. He has undertaken actuarial valuations and advice to many general insurance portfolios, including compulsory third party, public liability, workers compensation, medical malpractice, mortgage insurance, and professional indemnity. Bruce has also valued long service leave liabilities and provided advice to legal clients and large superannuation schemes. Outside of work Bruce enjoys playing tennis and travel.
Max Johnstone
Actuarial Analyst

Max is on his way to becoming an Associate and eventually a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries. He has been working as an actuarial analyst at Brett & Watson since November 2022, assisting in workers compensation, data analytics and actuarial valuations. Prior to joining Brett & Watson, Max completed his degree in Actuarial Science at Monash University. In his spare time, Max organises tournaments for trading card games and makes music.
Gillian Wigzell
Office Manager/ Data Analyst

Gillian joined Brett & Watson in 2015 and looks after all non-actuarial tasks such as executive and staff support, accounts, projects and general administration. Gillian has over 25 years’ experience in positions of customer service, administration, small business management and IT. This includes eight years in the airline industry and ten years as a founding director of a small IT based business. Gillian has undergone training within Brett & Watson to join the Actuarial Analysts in assisting the preparation of workers compensation valuations. In her spare time, Gillian enjoys time with family and friends, studying Theology, travelling to explore creation and culture, and playing music.
Kevin Butler
Senior Actuarial Analyst

In March 1999 Kevin joined Brett & Watson where he has been assisting in all aspects of the actuarial advice provided to our workers compensation, legal and general insurance clients. Prior to joining Brett & Watson, Kevin worked as an actuarial analyst for the life insurance division of SGIC for 11 years. Outside work Kevin enjoys spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Mason Manning

Bachelor of Mathematical Sciences (Advanced)
Mason joined Brett & Watson in 2023 during the final semester of his Bachelor of Mathematical Sciences from the University of Adelaide. Mason has begun studying towards qualification as an Associate and eventually a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries. Mason assists in all aspects of actuarial advice and data analytics. Prior to joining Brett & Watson, Mason worked in data analytics in the actuarial and the energy industry. In his spare time, Mason coaches, umpires and plays basketball.
Stephen Lee
Actuarial Analyst
Bachelor of Commerce
Stephen graduated from the University of Melbourne with a Bachelor of Commerce majoring in Actuarial Studies and is continuously working towards becoming a fellow of the Actuaries Institute. Stephen joined Brett and Watson in 2023, and he assists in providing advice in all areas of our business. Prior to joining Brett and Watson, Stephen was part of a data science team in the public sector, and has worked in the education sector. Outside of work, Stephen enjoys playing guitar and tennis.
James Hercus
Software Developer
Bachelor of Science (Computer Science) (Honours)
James is a computer programmer with 20 years’ experience in software development in the banking and finance industries. He joined Brett and Watson in 2023 to advise and assist with automation of data processing and analysis. His initial focus has been on workers compensation clients but he hopes to broaden from there into other areas of the business. In his spare time James enjoys hiking with his son, travelling with his wife, cooking and spending time with his family and church. He is also working towards a master’s degree in theology.
